Me neither, Obelixx - I don't see the point of any of these so-called social sites: they are far from that from what the family say. I understand they are about muck-raking, dishing the dirt, tweeting like the birds, and making as much sense. In other words they are up the garden path and a step too far for me. The messageboards are as far as I am prepared to socialise on line.

1. This looks like a barely concealed plug for the Hort Channel now that GW is off air.
2. Facebook is OK for keeping in touch with old friends and remote family
3. Twitter has proved to be astonishing. Wonderful for finding like minded people you don't already know. Great for finding things/people and for sharing ideas. It's not hard to shut out the dross. (Yes, I was a total sceptic, no I don't like pointless chat either)

Hi Trillium.
This board is about gardening on TV and radio so that includes the Horticultural Channel doesn't it?
Emails, phones and letters do for me for remote family. Facebook, for me and many others, would be just another time consuming distraction in a busy life.
So far, Twitter is still small beer in Belgium. I can see that its networking potential may be of use for people running small businesses or independant careers but I manage perfectly well with email, google and just actually talking in person or on the phone when I need to find or disseminate info for my garden group, the dance club, my English class or anything else.
Facebook, twitter and other such technology just end up being another distraction which cuts down time for personal contact.

The heading on this message board does specifically suggest that discussion is limited to 麻豆官网首页入口 gardening programs. However, there was much discussion recently about the Titchmarsh ITV effort, so our Mods must be pretty relaxed about it. They will be similarly relaxed about this too, as I'm sure they are keen for all us 麻豆官网首页入口 followers to vote for our 麻豆官网首页入口 programs and presenters.
I'm afraid I'm another one who has never had the inclination to join the social networking brigade. I just can't think of one reason why it would be of any benefit to me, while I can think of hundreds of reasons why I should avoid them like the plague.
Getting back to Horticultural Awards, I confess I'm sick to the back teeth of these never-ending, meaningless award ceremonies. The only real winner will be the Horticultural Channel (which I confess I've yet to access), and the results will be completely meaningless. The winner of any TV presenter award has to come from a program with a large audience, and how can anyone possibly ascertain the quality of a writer who pens for a newspaper or magazine that they never read. The whole concept is flawed. Wouldn't it be wonderful if Toby, Alys, or even Joe, were to come out tops in some category - now that really would make me smile.

"(which I confess I've yet to access)" Awww, Ken....much more exciting than GW!

It just says TV and Radio so not lmited to the Beeb.
I did start recording and watching the channel when it was on Sky but it was only once a fortnight so the reminder didn't work and I'd forget to set it up. It was keen amateurs giving easy, homely tips about what they were doing on their allotment or garden and why.
Toby and Joe surely won't be up for a prize. There wasn't a raspberry category.

On the top of my page it states : -
"Have your say and share your comments about the current crop of 麻豆官网首页入口 gardening programmes."
Not that it really matters, since they clearly permit discussion about other channels programmes. I must keep an eye out for the Hort. Channel in future. I can recall once having a really good look for it, but couldn't pick it up at all. Now I understand why.

This is all a bit silly and pointless an award for what ?-what value does it have ?-just seems a way of an obscure tv channel raising its profile-all I can say if I were to post with a link to my facebook page- which by the way I hardly use it -would not it be modded off yet a commercial for this tv channel is allowed- as this posting must have gone through pre -moderation.
As for stating "which categories you have been nominated"-I am quite upset to find I have not been nominated so therefore cannot win-that is a pity as I have a tuxedo ready for the glittering award ceremony-perhaps next year

It's a very incomplete list of categroies and candidates and, surely, all just a bit of fun. Like X Factor and Strictly the people voting will hardly be a statistically representative sample of the gardening world.
As for results, I wouldn't expect a link to a Facebook page, just a summary.

The voting lists are so incomplete that I found myself unwilling to cast votes knowing in some cases that my top choice was not there.
Re social networks (esp Twitter), I poke around on it when my OH is watching TV, in which I have close to zero interest. I have found (somewhat to my surprise) that I find more interest in what real people have to say in real time and interact with them if I wish, than to simply receive the interpretation that the formal media chooses to broadcast. It's also interesting to see what topics are of immediate interest to the world at large, and which the 麻豆官网首页入口/ITV have no interest in, or the resources to cover.
Of course, I could read and I do. All part of the mix. Horses for courses

I have never tried twitter but after a long time and numerous requests to join I signed up with facebook. However I soon realised that I didnt want to know what my grandchildren were getting up to and whilst it was good to see my sisters family in Seattle regularly even that ev entually felt a bit like spying on them. So now i dont bother opening up the numerous requests from Facebook to look at so and so's recent photos.
I like the idea of Trillium communicating with likeminded adults especially gardening and books but dont want to know what some boring so called celebs have been doing that day, like taking kids to park or the cat to the vet YAWN, and even worse how many bottles of vodka they got thru.
If anyone is thinking of starting a charity to buy a new leg for one of our heros then I would certainly be interested.

My view on social networking - If it's free, you're not the customer. You're the product.
So I'll pass thanks.
