The runners can - well: run and run!

I made a virtue out of a problem with runners from next door's raspberries. Wonderful fruit - and very prolific.

I just dig up the problem runners, pulling up as much root as possible. It doesn't solve the problem, but contains it (a bit).

But I put up with the runners in return for lots and lots of delicious fruit!

Are raspberry leaves similar to bramble leaves? They are from the same family aren't they? Think I may have inherited some raspberries but reckon there are brambles among them!

Brambles tend to self-propogate by layering. The long stems that touch the ground root into the soil, and a new plant is formed.

As a propogation technique for some plants, this is desirable. I would argue not (!) where brambles are concerned.

Raspberries send out underground runners, and new growth pops up some distance from the parent plant.

Both are a nuisance. It's just a case of managing the desirable and eradicating the udesirable.
