Garlic

  Is it too late to put garlic in, someone said it helped deter carrot fly when planted around their carrots. Can I use a bulb from the supermarket or do I have to buy ones in the garden centre?

  Hi Anne-Marie,
  
  I've used the supermarket ones before, they did fine. And you can put them in now, or even later in the year.
  Did you know you can use them as an anti-flea "medicine" for dogs (I do)?

  Hi Ann-Marie,
  
  I did a trial this year, I replanted some of last years cloves (Porcelain garlic), bought new seed garlic (more Porcelain garlic) , tried some shop bought Morado garlic and found some cloveless garlic in Lidl so I planted that too. All last October.
  
  Admittedly it has been a horrendous winter so they all had a lot to contend with but the seed garlic is miles by far the healthiest.
  
  The Morado one is Spanish and found it too cold I think, it's done nothing, last years bulbs are about 2 inches high with weak growth and the cloveless ones are just poking through now. I'm quite interested to see if they do anything. The Seed garlic is 7-9 inches high though so by far the best!
  
  I know poundland has seed garlic, 2 bulbs (about 10-20 plants worth) for a quid if you can get one near you. It may be too late for it but at a pound it's worth a try!
