I have not noticed them this early in the year before, but in the past week I have seen quite a few, so if you grow lilies, keep a sharp eye out for these pests.
If you have not seen them before, they are like elongated ladybirds, without the spots.
Be careful when trying to catch them because they fall to the ground if there is a lot of leaf disturbance, and just to be awkward, they seem to always land on their backs, so are not conspicuous!
Good hunting!
I've just sorted out a load of lillys I had in pots at the weekend and 2 of the pots were really badly infested with lilly beetle larvae, I've washed all the compost off the bulbs and thrown it away in the hope that it'll keep them at bay for a little while. There were a couple of the adult blighters hiding in the new foliage too!
Anyone know of any good tips to ward these off? I've not had them until last year when they suddenly appeared...
I noticed some yesterday on my lillies while water, I usually try catching a putting down drain but I have never seen them so early, tomorrow going to remove the lillies and find the babies. Stoping them from getting to the soil is hard as they always manage. would like a solution on getting rid.
what with these and flipping vine weevel real pain.
many thanks
