Today I went to my local diy store in preston lancs were they had been tidying up ready for a visit from top manager and was suprised to see loads of plants in what I call sick bay strawberries 6 pack 50p, 6 chilli tomatoes 1.00 and many others why cause the plants had few leaves that had gone funny or slightly died, if by end of today there was any left in the skip they go. Stupid what a waste. Homebase.

Homebase are renowned for throwing stuff in skips, they are worse at Christmas time, when Christmas is over they just throw what's left in a skip, why not sell it at 50 or 75% off like other shops do, I wonder what else gets skipped !

My wife plays hell with me for rummaging through skips, there's a lot to be said for it though. I've made cold frames for free, and get timbers and pallets, all sorts!

One man's waste is another mans treasure! Not wanting to sound sexist, women too!

My daughter used to work at Homebase and last year fetched home 8 tomato plants that were being thrown for me to try. They were very sad and wilted and I got a few tomatoes of them but they weren`t very successful but it was fun trying. It`s always worth trying though.

"when Christmas is over they just throw what's left in a skip, why not sell it at 50 or 75% off like other shops do"

Companies are profit driven and are therefore greedy. Why sell an item at cost when they can sell items with a 50% profit margin.

Large stores may have to hire a skip for other waste, where smaller stores dont, so more important for smaller stores to get rid.
