i have two camelias in containers for at least 4 years
i have ericaceous compost
when is best time to repot
When they are dormant at the end of the year. They won't thank you for it, I did mine last year and they have sulked this year, giving only a few flowers but by next year will be fine - as long as they don't get dry.
by end of year do you mean oct/nov time
Yes, really any time from October through to February, maybe when not too wet and cold. As your camellias are also in pots you are slightly more free to choose when you do it, unless the pots are ginormous when you might need a hand - I did! I pruned them quite drastically as well, as they don't much like that either they might as well have all the bits they don't want done at the same time - bit like going to the dentist and the barber on the same day!
They will sulk for a couple of years but as long as they are in ericaceous compost and kept moist they will do and be all the better for it.
Could not being in the right compost stop them flowering even though they are growing well??
Yes, they are fussy plants about where and in what they will grow well - they really do need ericaceous compost to flower well, plus good ericaceous feed in the year. Never, ever let them even think abut getting dry from now through to winter as this is when the flower buds form. If they dry out now, come February they will just drop all their buds. It is by far the commonest cause of bud drop and faied flowering in camellias, provided they are in the right compost.
