Why's that happening then, any ideas?
It's happening to both my onions and my shallots. The shallots are in a much more advanced state of growth, the onions are only babies and both have been in for slightly over a month.
It's only the very ends of the green tips. I have been watering them quite often, so I don't think it can be lack of water, am I supposed to feed these with something perhaps?
I don't know about shallots but if your onions are in the ground I don't think you should be watering them unless a drought.
Mine are doing really well and get no attention at present other than weeding and there has only been the odd weed.
Based on previous years I suspect it is a water problem and unlike zoomer I think you need to water regularly though not every day as onions are very shallow rooted. For the same reason they don't like weeds around them as they compete for nutrients. It seems a bit soon to start feeding but try a tomato feed - I used it last year with good results.
I would definitely think this is a watering issue not enough of it
I didn't water mine at all last year and we had a hot summer (sorry!). The onions did really well and the red ones especially were huge! Just eating the last that I stored.
I hardly watered mine last year and they were a good size. This year they've been watered two or three times and the vegatation is all green.
Prehaps I should be watering them more.
