Many thanks to all that replied to my Droopy Cucumber Plant problem 2 weeks ago.
I went back to the same garden centre the other day that I bought it from to purchase a replacement to go in the centre of a grow bag between 2 tom's inside a pvc greenhouse but the man at the g/c said you can't grow tom's & cue's together like this because of the diff' temp' needed. He said the only way would be to segregate them so that 1 part of the greenhouse could be kept at a diff' temp' Is he correct ?
Thanks in advance.
I grow my cues at the end of my greenhouse and the tomatoes down the side. I shade the end of the greenhouse where the cues are growing and always damp down the floor area around them in hot weather to create a bit of humidity and to deter red spider mite.
I also plant the cues on a little mound of compost so that water doesn't collect round the base of the plant as cues hate this and will sometimes collapse.
In an ideal world cucumbers prefer different conditions to tomatoes.
But how many of us have ideal conditions?
Yes they can grow together
a replacement to go in the centre of a grow bag between 2 tom's .
I`ve just reread the original post-that close is not a good idea
I have grown tomatoes and cucumbers separately in the same GH for years and have noticed no problems although ideally they apparently require different conditions.
However, putting a cucumber in between two tomatoes in the same grow bag is certainly something that should not be considered. They should be in separate grow bags or pots.
I grew cues for the first time last year and they were fine in the GH with the toms. As other posters have pointed out, it shouldn't go in the same grow bag though. My Gh has 1 corner which gets less sunlight so I plant the cues there 2 to a grow bag with a large lemonade bottle in the middle for watering, as mentioned you must keep their stems dry. The toms then go across the front of the GH and down the sunny side to get the full sum and shading the cues a little more. It worked well last year so will do the same this,
