i transferred my french beans today into a big pot because they are getting too big for indoors.
5 mins later the leaves had gone all soft. what happened and should i delay planting out now?

This doesn't answer your Q but mine did a similar thing, transferred them into bigger pots and put them in the plastic GH, only I forgot to unzip the plastic GH a couple of days ago and in the space of two days the leaves grew from being a couple of inches wide to the size of my hand, the stems are still strong but the leaves are really flimsy, I've left them outside now, it doesn't seem to have made any difference though, it will be interesting what your replies are...

Was it baking hot where you live too?? Never a good idea to plant out indoor plants when it's hot outside. Was the soil too dry, did you water them enough or at all?? Were you careful and being gentle transplanting them, so not to get any root damage to your beans??

I planted a lot of stuff today in the baking heat which is clearly not the best planting condition for most things and they mostly all looked rather unhappy not long after being planted. I watered them in well then gave them all another good soak in the evening when the sun had left the garden. I'll be keeping a close watch over the next few days and hope they revive with good watering.

I trasnplanted a few brassicas when it was hot yesterday, and this morning they were a bit floppy, although I'd watered them well. I tried a tip I'd read somewhere - after watering them again, I covered them with wet newspaper, scrunched up into tent-like shapes (luckily there was no wind). Later in the day I peeped and they were looking much perkier, and the soil was still damp under the paper depsite the heat.
