Wilkinson is often very cheap for netting. I also buy Wilkinson coathangers (wire covered with white plastic), straighten them out then bend them into hoops to drape netting or fleece over. Weight it down with scrap wood planks or poles and/or stones.

Plastic tubing in large hardware supermarkets. Bend them over the rows of plants, like an inverted 'U' and put net over. This gives the plants chance to grow. Remember, sprouts and sprouting grow quite tall.
I've also got sprouts and purple sprouting and they do tend to grow pretty tall. I went to Poundland and bought garden hose, netting and bamboo sticks. Like the reply above I cut the hose into lengths, but instead of putting the hose into the ground, I've pushed it over the ends of the bamboo canes to produce a taller structure and then placed the netting over the top and held it down with plastic pegs from Wilkinsons.
Fingers crossed it will keep the cabbage white away and I'll be caterpiller free this year!
I do the same as PTAO, the tubing that is sold to put electric wiring etc through. But the bamboo cane with hose idea is excellent JAMLEN - that would give me an even higher structure suitable for my raspberries. My allotment is 'on borrowed time' with property developers circling around like sharks, so trying always to find cheap and quick solutions rather than say building a fruit cage

Water piping and debri netting.Piping from Wicks or B&Q.Debri netting, you can scrounge from scaffolders.
Amazingrotavator.
I hope you will post a picture of your cabbages when they are fully grown, I've not seen one two feet wide before.
I remember watching an old episode of Gardener's World, with Geoff Hamilton. He used wooden raised beds with blue water pipe attached to it, forming hoops . I found this to be easy to use as I have different lengths for different veg and fruit. I managed to aquire quite a lot of good quality netting from a scaffolders, that had been used for safety netting and was past its usefulness, but perfect for keeping the nasties off my veg!!!

Zoomer The cabbage is over 2' across at the minute. It's just starting to heart up.I'm hoping it will be at least 5' across when grown fully.
Amazingrotavator.
Just one cabbage would fill my entire raised bed
Have a good harvest.
