    Hi,

I want to buy a greenhouse for my allotment. Its a very secure allotment and sheltered. I want to grow things like toms and pepper, also to use to propagate plants.

So many to choose from im lost.

Does anyone have a good one or can reccommend on. I think 8X6 would be big enough.

    Thanks
    Ann-Marie

Have you considered a polytunnel? They are cheaper and easier to build, so less heartache if anything goes wrong.

Yes I was looking into them. You have to replace the plastic every 3-5 yrs which isnt very environmentally friendly. Also could be costly in the long run.

I bought one very cheap in B % Q but had to buy some thicker polycarbonatye as the stuff which ame with the greenhouse atore and got blown pff during the windy winter last year. The new stuff was very cheap on E bay about £40 to completely replace the thinner stuff. Taking into account both purchases the total was less than £250

I reckon you can't beat a type of greenhouse called a kederhouse. It is constructed of very strong bubblewrap - expensive but worth the extra. It is very well insulated as a result and the bubblewrap is dead strong (10 year guarantee). In my neighbourhood everyone tends to go for this type - google it. I strongly recommend it (and I don't take commission either!)

Very impressive!! What did you use for the structure?

It has its own metal structure which holds it tight. I see that the beechgrove garden has one now (you can only see that programme if you are a Scot).

    Ann-Marie.

Amazingrotavators GH is pretty impressive isn't itsmiley - smileythat's if you have the skill to build one but if not check out the kederhouse.

I was given a GH but checked out cost etc.. before hand. They can become expensive with hidden extra's, like building a base.

The biggest concern with mine now is that it is positioned right next to my back fence, I've built this up with a trellis to prevent children throwing stones and breaking the glass. Not that I expect they would but I'd be a bit gutted if they didsmiley - smiley

The big advantage of the kederhouse is it is structurally similar to a GH with roof vents etc so auto vents could possibly be fitted, you can put in higher shelving to provide more space for pots/plants, it's plastic so even if your allotment is sheltered it could still be exposed to vandalism and stones are more likely to bounce off. Only thing was I couldn't find a price when I googled them.
