I am starting a new vegetable garden with two brick raised beds. I`m considering using copper piping instead of bamboos as poles to support wires and net for fruit and veg. although looks attractive and would last i`m concerned as to whether or not the copper would contaminate the soil and potential harvests.appreciate any view on this thanks
No I can't see it doing any harm, as most of it will be out of the soil - it may also help to deter slugs and snails. Go for it!
Copper poles are fine, and the slugs will be repelled from your growth - jolly expensive bean poles though!! Assume you have them left over from plumbing - they would also look stunning with sweet peas growing up them, but that's another story altogether.
As far as I can ascertain copper contamination in the soil comes from processes involving a heat source ie smelting, exhaust-fumes but it is also used in fungicides.
Most drinking water in this country is supplied via copper pipes therefore I believe it is unlikely your supports will cause soil contamination.
Good luck
