I sowed three types of tomato seeds and had good germination.

those destined for the GH (Orlando) are ready to be planted in the GH border: no problems.

the outdoor toms: Marmande and Gardeners' Delight, were put in the cold frame to harden off.

So far, so good. But: in final readiness for planting out, I put the potted tomato plants outside - and we had a much colder couple of nights than predicted (even here in the benign south West.)

The leaves have gone white (cold) and/or rolled up (cold).

I could kick myself - I should have rushed out and put them back in the cold frame or, at the very least, fleeced them smiley - sadface

So - the "leftovers" are still in the seed trays - a bit stressed (yellowed lower leaves) for not having been potted on, but pretty OK otherwise.

Do I plant out the ones (a good size) that were affected by the cold, give a high potash feed and hope, or resurrect my not-potted-on left-over seedlings?

Hmmmm. Horns of a dilemma here!

Or I could go to the GC and buy smiley - yikes some plants!

No no, don't buy smiley - yikes them. I would say use the ones which have the strongest, thickest stems as that is an indication of how strong the roots are. Leaves will recover or the plants will develop more further up.

Do not feed. I have said before that tomatoes are not dead until it`s obvious.

As long as there is life in the tip and leaves just below they will recover.

Just be more careful next time smiley - smiley

Posh - this is exactly what happened to me with the outdoor toms. I left them where they were and guess what .........they are bursting into life and now looking healthy.

Thanks all for your input. I am much more hopeful now!

In all the years of gardening, I've never made so basic a mistake before. Mortified smiley - doh

Just an update and thanks for the advice: the plants that were looking pretty sorry for themselves after the cold are now growing well. The new leaves are fine, and several trusses have set.

I have high hopes of good crops.

Many thanks again smiley - ok
