hi all i would just like to share my joy of seeing my very first eva home grown in the garden pea pod and mange tout just hanging there after the terrible winds and rain there they were how odd but beautiful the excitement from my four children was worth all the sowing and nurturing because even if everything else fails that magical moment of finding that first pea pod cannot be taken away from my 8yr old daughter who might as well have found gold how fantatic. So i just thought i would share a little joy x

Isn't it great to grow your own and good education for the children too!

What a lovely post, and it's great to hear your children have caught the gardening bug!

When I was about 10, my dad got an allotment, and allowed me to "help". I can still remember the excitement of seeing the first fruits of our (his) labour - the first tiny inch-long runner bean, or the first courgette setting. Wonderful times!

To be honest, I still get just as excited 18 years later!

Isn't it all wonderful, and the excitment of those first fruits never failss, every year it is just as exciting as the first time - and there are not alot of things about which you can say that!!

Am watching my peony buds with bated breath, and the tomatoes for flowers/fruits, and seeing the red/blackcurrants swelling from tiny hard green drops to much bigger green shapes that are beginning to look like currants - it is a miracle every year, and an incredible delight.

It is wonderful when children discover growing things, and where their food actually comes from, and that they can actually have a hand in producing it........

Congratulations on your first pea! I never fail to get excited when anything produces its first fruit or flower of the season. I usually take photo's and e-mail them to my long suffering sister.

I keep going out to look at my broad bean pods, which are getting bigger every day. None of my strawberries are turning colour yet but there is a lot of fruit on each plant. My father grows his under glass so he has already been able to pick some.
