It's that time of year which i hate, your thinking about your new potatoes, but there not quite there yet. Pulled up my first potato last year after 90 days, June 13th i think? they were perfect, and we didn't have to warm spring last year either. So i'm hoping to be lucky again this year.
I wouls give them an extra 3 weeks on last year as the cold and frost will have held them back.
I'll pull one up as usual, i've more than enough anyway I'll be able to judge the time scale from there. Last year i would never have said my potatoes would have been ready after 90 days, that would have been a bet i would have lost. Even with the cold weather, the last time i had ground frost was in the first week of April, so i'm feeling lucky
Good luck i am really looking forward to mine after paying so much for Jersey royals last week. 90 days is about right for first earlies as that is about 13 weeks. I am usually digging mine up by now but i can see just by looking at the plants that they are not ready. Its been a very odd spring with so much late frost and cold temperatures. I expect we will now be moaning about the hot weather and hard ground now.
