I couldn't help but share this wonderful discovery. A wren has nested in the pocket of my gardening apron, and every time I open the shed door it flies out.How it gets in is a mystery, but isn't it really sweet! I can't think when I shall get back the use of my apron, though.
A few years ago, for some reason a woollen hat had been placed on a wooden stake 2' high in our border, about 6' from the kitchen; I was amazed to see a wren nesting in it. Unfortunately I missed the young emerging. They also favour the disused nests of swallows in outbuildings, and build on top.
How wonderful, there seem to be fewer nesting birds n our garden this year, so delighted to hear your apron pocket is being put to such good use.
I have just discovered - it is a robin, not a wren. It flies so fast that I didn't see it properly. Can't wait until the babies hatch.
