Just put two of my tomatoes in cages: [IMG]/IMG]

Why? Because, unlike the four other tomato plants in the bed, these two are bush or indeterminate, Red Alert to be precise. Make no mistake, it’s a fine tomato. It crops early, gives a good yield and the fruits have good flavour. But it’s unruly. When it starts fruiting the branches flop down and the trusses can end up on the ground and prone to slugs. The cages should stop that happening, the cage supporting the trusses and branches.

Two detail points. The cages are made from an offcut of pig/sheep netting. Not having any lying around, I advertised on Freecycle, Freegle in some places, and received a response within the hour. Magic! If you look closely, you can just see the easy watering devices near the bases of the plants, the top parts of empty pop bottles. Used to use flowerpots, but I think these are better. At the end of the season they can be chucked in the Recycling bin.

Sorry for my typing mistake, Red Alert are determinate, not indeterminate as above. smiley - sadface

Try growing `yellow Currant` smiley - smiley-it may have very small fruit but the plant itself is a thug-rampant would be an understatement.
