    Hello,

By way of introduction I am in my second year as a gardening enthusiast, having always said that I would rather get a gardener than do any gardening myself. That all changed when we moved from a top floor flat to a house with a garden and I am now officially hooked! I have a penchant for tropical plants and that is the theme in my garden.

My question today is can I use SB Plant Invigorator with Just Seaweed Feed on an ongoing basis? I used the SB Plant Invigorator last night as a foliar spray to control pests and invigorate my plants, I intend continuing to use this as a pesticide when required and an invigorator on an ad hoc basis. I intend using the Just Seaweed Feed as a soil conditioner on my plants on an ad hoc basis (possibly every 2-4 weeks).

Any advice and information would be really appreciated.

    Many thanks!

any product that claims to be magic should be treated with great suspicion
like a lot of these so called foliar feeds it basically uses nitrogen to green the plant up but it is a very expensive way to buy nitrogen

Welcome to the world of gardening.

Feed the soil first, and don`t waste money feeding suppliments too much. A bit of tomato feed or some general purpose fertiliser on the soil OK but don`t go mad

    Taken from RHS site

Dried or processed seaweed products can be used much as you would any other plant tonic. These products are available in liquid or solid form, so always read the label to find out the best way of application.
Dried seaweed products include seaweed meal (crushed and dried fresh seaweed), powdered seaweed extract (produced by boiling the seaweed and evaporating off its liquid content, leaving a concentrated solid extract that is powdered), and liquid seaweed extract (produced from fresh seaweed by water extraction).
Fortified seaweed extracts (usually liquid) contain added nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium and quote an NPK ratio on the product label. See our page on fertilisers for an explanation of what this ratio means.
Many popular fertilisers (such as Tomorite) are now available with added seaweed extract, so you can add the purported benefits of seaweed at the same time as a fertiliser application.
Calcified seaweed is produced from naturally occurring beds of calcified and coralline algae. Some sources are more sustainable and renewable than others, so it is worth reading the product information or phoning the manufacturer for details of provenance. When used in the garden, calcified seaweed is an alternative to garden lime, with added trace elements and plant nutrients. It is usually more costly than garden lime.

Seaweed concentrates are not strictly a fertiliser, and might be better referred to as a "tonic". There are quite a few brands around, but the science that applies is the same. Basically, the chemical makeup of the solution that is produced from seaweed, stimulates the strengthening of plant cell walls and also cell division.

    Hope this helps
