Hi - this thread is started to show members how to post pics and cut out the waffle in the previous thread. So G Hosts - please could you close the other thread.

    POSTING PHOTOS WITH PHOTOBUCKET

This assumes that you have your digital photos already stored on your computer. NB: Photobucket is regularly 'improved' which generally means that the way to use it changes slightly so these instructions may become out of date quite quickly. They should give the general gist of it though… Any further questions please post below and usually someone will be able to help.

    1. Go to

    www.photobucket.com

and sign up. Don't forget where it asks for your sign in name this will be the screen displayed name. You may not wish to use your real name - most people use their board name. You will then be asked the usual 'personal' questions.

Warning: When allowing people access to your photobucket don't forget that it is open to anyone in the world who wants to look. Be careful to only post those pictures you are comfortable about anyone seeing.

    2. When you have signed in you will be greeted with a box saying

UPLOAD TO USERNAME - with some empty boxes below.

You can UPLOAD from your PC, Video, WEB URL or Mobile phone but for this we will assume you are uploading from your PC which is the default option.

    Click the BROWSE button.

    3. This should open a window onto your computer where you will need to go to the directory on your computer where the file containing your picture is located.

Click on the file name you wish to download

Then in the window box click OPEN

The window to your computer will close and the filename will now appear above the box.

If you want to add a title to the image click on the box.

To UPLOAD more images go to the next box and repeat the process and so on. ADD MORE IMAGES if necessary.

    4. Click UPLOAD button

    5. Your pictures should now be displayed below.

If you want to just share one or two images click on fourth option below the image labelled

IMG CODE (click on the words)

This box will go blue and a yellow box will appear saying copied.

    6. Return to the Beeb board and paste the link into your message. Repeat for your next image.

    7. In order to see if it has worked click on PREVIEW and test the link by clicking on it. If it is OK post message.

If you want viewers to see all your pictures then you can either

    1. Go to the top of your screen and copy http link from your web browser - the box where it says

    s???.photobucket.com etc.

and then paste that into your Beeb board message. This will take the viewer to your Photobucket home page where they can choose how to view the pictures

    OR

    2. You can click on VIEW AS A SLIDESHOW (a small line in blue to the right of your page) this will present your pictures as a slideshow. Copy the http: etc. link as above and paste that into your Beeb board message. This will take the viewer straight into your slideshow.

    --------------------------------------

These are the basic instructions. You can create sub-albums to store your different pictures and you can make things private and there are no doubt various other frilly functions that I have managed to live without so far.

    FAQs

    Q. How do we get onto the Garden Gallery thread?

Ans. There are two Gallery threads one with the list of members garden photos

    www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb...

If you post a link to your garden pictures on the end of the Gallery thread Obelixx will include it in the main body when she next updates the gallery.

The other gallery thread is to chat about the gallery gardens

    www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mb...

    Q. If I post a link to a sub album can everybody see all my pictures?

Ans. Yes it is not uncommon for viewers to stray outside of the album you have mentioned and have a good nose around. So if there is anything you don't want people to see either make another photobucket album and keep it there or make the sub-album private.

Q, Is the Photobucket site linked to the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú?

Ans. No. It is just a convenient way to use to show other board members your photos. There are other sites but I can't give you instructions as I haven't used them myself. If someone feels like writing some instructions (or cribbing them from elsewhere) then please tag them on to this thread.

    Q. Why is it when I go to the photobucket link to view pics, I sometimes get 'page not found', and even when I try opening it elsewhere it still doesn't show?

Ans: "page not found" appears when someone has moved a photo and broken a link.
If you move a picture to a new sub album, for example, the link posted no longer works.
Sometimes people forget to make their albums public too.

    Another useful bit :

Rather than try & explain it myself, I think that the easiest thing to do is to look at the step by step guide on how to use the new Photobucket bulk uploading tool (beta) from the upload screen which is in the ‘Help‘ section because it does show pictures of the screen which appears. Alternatively, do what I did & click on the big red arrow on the upload screen & it is all quite straight forward. If I can do it anybody can!

This tool lets you upload larger quantities of images at a time, and will also speed up the bulk uploading process. However, you must have the most current version of Flash installed (9 or higher), and have the most current version of java installed on your computer. (When I first tried this a few days ago no pictures appeared so I guessed I did not have the latest update of one of these - then I got a window appearing which asked if I wanted the latest version of Flash uploaded, so I did, & it worked.)

The tutorial can be found on:
    tutorials.photobucke...

Still trying to pick out useful bits :

For someone who wants to upload a lot of photo's from their camera or computer, consider downloading 'flock' www.flock.com/
    Instructions for use:-

load flock,go to tools, select photouploader, this will open another window which is not fullscreen, leave this window open and 'x' out of the main flock window.

Drag the uploader window to one side of your screen and then open another window containing your photo's,close this window down to half size and drag to the other side of your screen.

You can now drag as many photo's as you like into the uploader window when ready click on the upload button fill in your user name and password for photobucket,it will also give you the option to pick sub albums.

This allows you to move hundreds of photo's at one go and is also much quicker at uploading than using photobucket's own method.

    Re deleting:

There are two ways of deleting photos from here - if there aren't many of them you can do one at a time by clicking the delete link above the picture you want to remove - you'll get something warning you this will break your links and asking if you're sure - click yes and the picture will go. Alternately, if you've got a lot of photos you want to delete and you'd rather do it all in one go, click the little box at the bottom of each of them (or scroll down to the bottom of the page and click "select all" if you want to delete all the photos in the album) and then click "delete selected" - again, you'll get the warning about breaking your links, but if you click yes all the pictures will go.

The breaking links bit means that if you have posted any of the photos anywhere they will disappear from there as well, so only delete them if you're sure this doesn't matter, and you don't want people to see them. If you don't mind people seeing the photos and just want them separate from your garden ones though, you could always create a sub album for your garden ones instead. But anyone viewing that album would be able to look at your other photos as well.
