Hi, I am grown cordon tomatos in wooden raised troughs (approx 1 metre long, 25cm wide), I have planted three tomato plants and have also planted a row of dwarf french beans seeds at the very front of the trough - will this do any hard - i am not sure and want to make the best use of space in my small garden?
French beans will be fine as the tomatoes use the nitrogen produced by them. Basil is good as a companion plant too - good in the garden and good on the plate!
Thanks for your message really useful advice, good to know that I am doing the right thing, even if it is more by luck!
Hi poppy1980
Some other companions are the Onion Family, Nasturtium, Marigold, Asparagus, Carrot, Parsley, Cucumber, Mint.
but AVOID-Potato, Fennel, Cabbage Family
Best wishes
Thanks for your advice, are these all suitable to grow with tomatoes or with beans?
Hi poppy1980
Should have read
but AVOID-Potato, Fennel, Cabbage Family and the Onion Family (Alliums) They Inhibit the growth of peas and beans.
GOOD LUCK
