Hello,
I am looking into growing wheat on a small scale and wondered if anyone has tried this before, I have about 10mx10m of spare land that is clayish soil (which my book tells me is ok for wheat.)
Any hints or tips gratefully recieved.

I grew a few square yards many years ago as my then partner wanted to make corn dollies.
Sown early spring it grew OK-and then she didn`t so it when in the compost bin.
I have no idea how much you would need to get anything worth eating /milling

Cadbury's used to advertise "A pint and a half of milk in every bar", which I thought a bit mean. I wonder if the Warburtons web site says something about how much wheat germ goes into a loaf? Is there a mill nearby, you have in mind or is it the stalks you need?

Thanks for the replies, I was thinking of grinding it by hand and feeding the straw to my nextdoor neighbours donkey, in exchange for manure.
The gay meadow can never be replaced! Yes I do miss it.
Spring sowing it is then.
Thanks again

Wheat straw is not the best to feed to animals because it is quite hard. Barley straw or oat straw would be better. Oats harvested and fed without threshing to animals is preferable. If you want to harvest the grain separately rolled oats is a good food for horses/donkeys.

my husband grew wheat on some unused land we had a few years ago.
Given an area of 10 m x 10 m.
you should be able to produce at least 100kg of cleaned wheat berries to grind into flour.
