Has anyone grown the above with any success? Having a curry moment! I've tried coriander before but wasn't v. successful. I found the seedlings v. floppy and delicate and they didn't transplant well.
Are they better grown in pots?
Is ginger best grown in a greenhouse?
Any advice gratefully received.
Hi. I have tried ginger but without much luck although it can be grown.
Coriander is another matter,it`s easy. Just scatter some seeds and wait.
I tried corriander last year and just sprinkled some seeds, at this time last year, in a pot, kept it in a sunny sheltered spot and it grew no problems.
I haven't tried ginger.
Thanks for your replies. Maybe I will try the coriander in a pot and not transplant it.
Think I will try the ginger in a pot too and bring it in when the weather is cold.
Ginger is a tropical plant, and although it can be grown in this country, it will not (according to my herb book) produce the necessary rhizomes.
I can grow to 3ft - so is not a small plant!

No! I have grown more than 3ft. I meant "IT can grow . . . ."

Coriander grows quite well outside, and then you don't have any problems with transplanting. In fact it tends to self-seed, and I have various coriander plants grwoing in the wrong places this year. You do need to keep sowing in succession, as it quickly runs to seed, but you can save the seed for future years.
Ginger makes a lovely house plant in this country, but you will nt get any ginger root to use in cooking - we do not have the light or the long periods of intense heat (I wish), to ripen the roots. Pop a bit of ginger root from the supermarket in a pot of compost with good drainage, vermiculite or gravel, keep it warm and it will leaf.
As everyone else has said, coriander is easy, it is an annual here, it will not overwinter. Yummy though.....
