Just thought I'd post about a silly mistake I made smiley - smiley I'm new to veg growing and planted two cucumber plants in my new veg patch, after a few days they went all limp and then died, I mentioned it at the garden centre where I bought them from, the lady was very nice and sypmathic and asked which did I plant indoor or outdoor, of course i'd plant indoor - outside.

I must be more careful to read the lables. smiley - doh

Easy done mate, last year I planted some in the green house, that I got from a GC but they were out door ones...thing is they had male flowers and the lot went bitter so no cues for us...made sure I grow from seed this year.

We have all made mistakes and indoor cucucumbers from a GC will be very tender.

But there is also something called neck/stem* rot which occurs when the soil just at the base of the cucumber is too wet so bear that in mind for the future.

    * symptoms of neck rot-the leaves start to go floppy and this is followed by death in almost all cases

    Look on the bright side...

The first year I had my garden I fertilised everything with Evergreen grass fertiliser. Newby me thinking "fertiliser is fertiliser" ah how naive! by two weeks later everything, and I mean everything but the lawn had shrivelled and died. All my veggies, flowers. I'd fertilised the flowerbeds, pots, crops, everything...

Turns out lawn fertiliser is only for lawns! I cried at the time but my husband and I still laugh at how stupid I was! I have learned to read the instructions before jumping into projects with gusto! smiley - laugh

Hi Vix ( I hope you don't mind me shorting your name)

you must have been gutted at least I only paid 1.50 each for my cues, it would cost a fortune to replace everything in the garden.

A bet your lawn looked good though smiley - smiley
