Hi all, This is my second year with school garden, last year great success but this year I am a bit worried that I have no flowers on my container grown early potatoes. Will this affect the yield I wonder?
Also over wintered garlic and onions a bit slow is this due to extra cold start to spring?
Regards Miss
Not all potatoes flower and they are about 3 weeks behind this year with the cold and late frosts. I am usually eating mine by now but they are not ready and will not be for another month or so.

These are my charlotte potatoes growing in sacks outside my kitchen window, taken today. I had to plant them a bit late due to the cold weather earlier so they are also a bit behind now.
LPM is right that not all potatoes flower, but my spuds were ready 2 days earlier than last year, so it all depends on where you live
None of my first earlies have flowered - I've just emptied a first ontainer to try and they were golf ball size...delicious (Maris peer or homeguard)
I am growing potatoes for the first time. I have gone for the large sack option. When they got to 8inches I earthed up. Then again at a further 8inches, I earthed up again.
My question is, when do I know when they're ready As they are just about starting to flower.
Calculate from when you planted them 12-14 weeks for earlies 14 weeks second earlies.
Hello, I've always found that spuds grown in containers rarely flower and yield does not appear to be affected.
Thanks for all your replies really helpful. New to this site and finding it useful and interesting.
Happy gardening
