hi, some help and advice will be much appreciated. I grew some spinach last year in a large container and after having lots of spinach, it started to shoot up and flower.
I decided I will let it grow and hopefully have some seeds by the end of it. But I think i have waited a long time and still there are no signs of any seeds on the plant - just lots of semi-open flower buds.
What is this and where have I gone wrong? Most importantly, should I just rip it out and plant something in its place.
Similarly, I grew a parsley plant, one of those supermarket bought flat leaf parsley. just like the spinach, I ate lots of leaves and then it decided to go to flower hoping to get some seeds, but all it has done is dust all around the floor and the pot lots of yellow powdery petals. But I can't see any seeds. Once again, am I wasting my time? What should I do? any help and advice is much appreciated.
Many Thanks!

Sometimes it is just better to bite the bullet and buy a packet of seed.

I'd have thought it'd take much longer than this to get seed. If there are still flowers there is still a chace of seeds. Have you get lots of pollinating insects around? I would guess that parsley and spinach would take until late summer or even early Autumn to actually produce seed.
Personally I don't think it's worth the space or the nutrient drain on my soil so just pull them up about this time of year when they have bolted.
