I have just watered the garden and have noticed a tiny, tiny patty pan squash just getting started, I also have a courgette which is about an inch long. It's exciting when everything really gets growing!
Yes, it is exciting. I'd be interested to know what the patty pan tastes like as I may grow them next year.
I sowed some mixed squash seeds so no real idea which are which but quite confident that some are yellow patty pan - a couple are quite big (maybe a side plate at their widest? I think I've read they are best harvested quite small so would now be a good time? Do you half them and stuff them? There'a also one of a similar shape but pale green in colour......thought mixed seeds were a good idea but now I'm not so sure.....a couple of ones that look like trumpets (trombolina squash maybe?) I don't even know which are summer and which are winter varieties so will look for a book!
Yellow patty pan squash are nice harvested at around 2" in diameter. You can cook them whole, or slice them and pan fry in butter. Great in an omlette and pretty on the plate!
