This the third year I have tried to grow peppers they start well but as they start to produce the fruit black patches seem to appear at the leaf junction with the stem. Last year the fruit also aquired black patches and did not ripen up at all. Does anyone know what this is or should I be doing something different?
This could be the last time otherwise
I had black patches on some of my peppers last year. I'd be interested in the replies too...PING
this may be due to lack of calcium in the soil combined with uneven/over watering - like blossom end rot on tomatoes.
Bone meal will help, though maybe it's a bit late now as it takes time to work. There may be some kind of calcium foliant feed?
either that or you could try epsom salts 3tbs to a gallon of water. it may be magnesium deficiency. i have never had black patches and I've been growing peppers the last 3 years. You can get like dark veins on the stems near like a joint but that's normal. i got hit by what look like blight last year where one minute they were all healthy next day all plants dead but they didn't have dark patches they looked fine. When mine are in flower I spray in the evening just with water to disperse pollen and feed with tomato food. It's never failed me yet, good luck peppers are just the greatest plant to grow joanne
