My mange tout pods are not at all flat and you can see quite large peas in the unopened pods. I've not grown them before but was expecting them to be a lot flatter and I'm wondering whether I have just normal peas and won't be able to eat the whole pod. Does anyone know if this is normal for mange tout?
The only real difference with mange tout is that they don't have the inedible transparent skin inside the pod so you can eat the whole thing. They still have peas in them.
PING.
It sounds like they've been left too long on the stem. AS they're peas they have the tendency to make peas if you let them. Pick 'em quicker!
I tried a few last night and the pods were quite inedible but the peas were lovely and sweet (I don't normally like round pea). They are still very small though, only a few inches, even the bumpy ones. If i pick them too quickly to prevent the peas getting bigger they are going to be tiny.
However, I'm looking forward to having more of the peas, they were really delicious.
