Dug up a couple of my potato plants today and had some lovely big potatoes (expected them to be smaller!) but one or two had splits in them. Someone told me that irregular watering can cause split potatoes but I have been watering them loads.
When I first planted them I watered them a bit before someone told me to wait until the foliage is 6 inches high before watering. Could this have caused them to split?
Also, expected more potatoes - only have 3-4 per plant.
Confused. What did I do wrong?
My potatoes spilt last year but because they were being attacked by the snake spotted millipede (you'll see tiny pinholes and they are small and almost translucent) and some other tiny tiny black bug. Might be that?
