There are male and females flowers to cucumbers and courgettes etc. The male flowers appear first and then the female flowers follow with the cucumber growing behind the female flower.
Cucumber/courgettes are much later this year (in my case about 4 weeks behind), so just wait a while and the female flowers will start appearing.
