Can anyone suggest what could be grown in pots and grow bags on a north-facing balcony?

I would be interested to hear about herbs, veg and fruit possibilities.

    Thanks

Hi. I grow loads in my shady little plot... some plants prefer the shade - it takes them longer to bolt. Try beetroot and kale - they both prefer the shade, and I've got kale growing in old Quality Street tins left over from Christmas. Radishes will grow anywhere, and again prefer a bit of shade. Raspberries love the shade - if you have a big enough pot. Parsnips and carrots can do well in pots if you choose the right variety. I also defy convention and grow loads of sprouts and broccoli in old baby's powdered milk tins and they do great every year. You may be surprised how prolific your shady veg will become. Good luck!

YOu can grow salad leaves - in sunmmer they prefer to be out of full sun and they do well in growbags. Another one is spinach - mine has done well in a shady spot this year. On the herb side, mint is hapy in the shade - put it in a pot by itself or it will over-run everything. I think parsley should be OK too, but for some reason I can't seem to grow it anywhere.

Let us know how you get on.

    Caz
