... it's so demoralising. I'm growing 3 big pots of carrots, each one is covered with a teepee of fleece secured under the lip of the pot and twisted around a central cane at the top. They have only been exposed to the open air when I have been watering, thinning or swapping the fleece over for a bigger piece. I was picking salad nearby and I just happened to notice little black bodies moving around at the top of the fleece. I squashed as many as I could and then looked online, they certainly look like carrot fly. I'm so fed up!
I'd sow some more in another pot, but what is the point if I can't keep them out?

I read that if you put pots high up then carrot fly cannot get to them as they only fly below a certian height.
...I'm not sure exactly how high though...from memory its 2ft but you'll have to check through google or something?!
Good luck!

I am not convinced of this story that carrot fly cannot fly more than so high as they certainly travel very long distances between crops and that would never be achieved if they kept to ground level
It does appear in Wikipoedia but that is not a perfect reference source

That is an amazing website, thank you. I guess I'll just plant on some kind of platform next year.
