Sorry to bring up this old chestnut but having put a planter of runner beans onto my patio,
'cause i think the flowers look very pretty, my obilisk is only 1.2m high.
Is it okay to stunt the beans growth by pinching them out early???
Yes.
It's your bean plants and you can do what you like. Pinching the tops will promote side shoots, which should also flower and hopefully some beans.
i had to pinch mine out to get rid of black fry. Now its producing more pods
