Can anyone help please? My tomato plant (Gardener's Delight) leaves at the top of the plant have started to curl under very tightly.

They are slightly more 'bulbous' than I would expect and I think the overall plant grown is stunted as well. When I try to unfurl the leaves, to see if I can see whitefly or something equivalent (I can't), they break off.

Any suggestions for what's wrong or how I cure it would be much appreciated!

I hope it isn't this but could you be growing your plants in compost contaminated by the weedkiller aminopyralid?

There is a picture of an affected plant and some details on here:

If it is this then there is nothing you can do other than buy new plants and put them in new soil/compost.

Hi doodle, my plants are the same. It looks strange but it’s probably caused by low night time temps and nothing to worry about. Mine are actually starting to straighten out now as the plants get taller. I would just leave them to it, they should straighten out in time.

I grow Gardeners' Delight every year (I've never found a tastier small tomato) and this regularly happens. I have no idea why the leaves curl like that - they just do. But it has never affected the cropping - I get pounds and pounds of them every time.

Well, except for last year to be truthful - and that was down to the dreaded blight. I cut out affected parts, sprayed with Bordeaux mixture, and saved some of the crop.

But leaf curling has never had an impact on cropping so far as I am aware!

I agree with posh. This happens to my GD every year and they sort themselves out again afterwards.

My FERLINE variety are in large pots and very healthy -just the same with top leaves curled -Just the extra nitrate in the compost i think -as it is used up the older leaves straighten.Adding Tomorite liquid food has the same effect.
