Hi, just wanted to share what I have managed to crop from my little terraced house garden so far - in pots and troughs:

Sugar snap peas (have second sowing coming on well now), 9 cos lettuce, lots of rollo rosso, 6 courgettes (not sure what to do with the glut?)
and today I have picked my first crop of climbing french beans - about 30 of them which I will have with my tea tonight - all very exciting.

I am also growing but not yet had crops from: patty pan and butternet squash, cordon tomatos, chillis, sweetcorn, peppers. Also considering planting another batch of climbing french and first batch of runners - not sure if it is too late in the season now?

How is everyone else doing? Really good to hear from you all as it shows you can grow food whether you've got a couple of pots or an allotment.

    Lucy x

I'm always interested in other peoples success. Tomatoes are doing very well in my garden, but my climbing french beans and courgettes have been very slow this year. Dwarf french beans are cropping really well, and as they were sown at the same time as the climbing beans I'm a bit puzzled.

In my veg patch this year I have cucumber, pattypan, butternut squash, beetroot, peas, runnerbeans, carrots, swiss chard, kale, brussel sprouts, calabrese, fennel, artichoke, potatoes, cabbage, broad beans (dwarf), sweetcorn, chilli, peppers, lettuce (little gem and cos) radish, strawberries and rasberries. Onions and garlic have just been cropped.

In an ideal situation I would keep to the reccommended spacing but I don't have the luxury of space. Everything seems to be doing ok though. smiley - smiley

    Ilike hearing about others successes.

    What a variety GCG.

I've had a bumper crop of strawberries. Rasberries not as plentiful but it's only their second year. The blueberries are beginning to ripen, I'm only expecting one bowl full, wish they'd hurry up though I'd planned to make blueberry muffins. The rubarbs finished

Had lots of mangetout, petit poui and peas early, they've finished now. still growing - sweet corn, parsnips, swede, beetroot, spring onions, radish, various lettuse, chad, spinach, spuds, courgettes, onions, pickling onions, chillies, peppers, toms (they are quite slow only a few toms up to now), runner beans, peas, carrots (only 3 germinatedsmiley - sadface ) and lots of different herbs.

Garlic planted in October was an also ran but poor crop in fact no crop at all.

Think that's everything smiley - erm

I'm having minor trouble with green/black fly out on the vewg beds and leaf burn in the GH at least I hope that's what it is, not seen any pests in great numbers though. Also having trouble with the cat chasing birds across the veg beds. Theres been lots of cabbage white butterflies but only a few eggs on plants.

I love it, love it, love all of it. Congratulations on all your growing achievements guys smiley - hug

Just had my first Raspberries this evening. I heard that a good cold spell helps Raspberries and Plums and I have a bumper crop this year! Yippee. We also had some Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall inspired Gooseberry Granita last night.

We've had fresh salad all summer, I haven't bought a single bag! Mange Touts, Spring Onions, courgettes, strawberries, dig in Chantenay Carrots and We've eaten the Garlic Scapes.

Still have Brussels, garlic, onions, shallots, beetroot, tatties, sweetcorn, blueberries, autumn Raspberries, leeks, lettuces, savoy, Purple Sprouting Broccoli, parsnips and I'm hoping to give gifts of "Home Grown Christmas Dinner" this year too.

It's just wonderful to serve something for dinner and be able to say "I grew this" it gives you a great sense of pride smiley - smiley

glad everyone is doing so well, it is a great feeling. Quick question - do any of you use courgette in salad? if so do you cook it (fry slices) and use it or use it raw? if you use it raw what do you do with it to make it tasty - i always char it where i cook it to bring out the flavor, any ideas?

With tonight's dinner we had Anya potato and shallot salad with chives (thanks Delia), cos lettuce with parsley and more chives, children had Lady Christl potatoes, lettuce and Dig-In carrots with their fish (not home grown!). We've had some mange tout and sugar snap peas but next year will sow a lot more of these as the children love them. Tomorrow we MUST eat some courgettes so will probably have green and yellow courgette omelettes. Not quite sure what to do with the kohl rabi. Can't wait for the runner beans and French beans, both flowering beautifully at the moment, and tomatoes coming along nicely with green fruits appearing daily. Charlotte potatoes still to be harvested.

After the months of planning, sowing, preparing, working in the cold it is wonderful to see it all happening and reaping the benefits. And great to hear of everyone elses' successes too. We were all worrying about our tiny seedlings such a little time ago.
