It's easy; I did it last night.

Look for long new growths of about 30cm. Cut just below a leaf joint. Strip off all the lower leaves. Put in a gritty compost about 6 to a 6 inch pot. Water and keep in a shady place for the rest of the summer.

I find that they are normally well rooted to plant out in early spring.

You can also do the same with riper wood in the autumn, but I have found doing it now is quicker.

You can do the same with any other currants.

Wait until around mid October time and then take hardwood cuttings, not the oldest wood but something around 2-3 years old. You want around one foot of wood and cut at an angle.

Plant in a prepared trench and leave for another year. They should then be ready to be moved to a new home.

You can also layer them, bend down a branch and pin it with a brick or anything, cover the branch with soil and wait.

Again in about a year you should have a rooted branch that get then be cut off of the main bush
