I have harvested my early potatoes (maris bard) and for a 1st attempt they are very good.
Now the ground is empty and looks awful, can anyone please tell me what I can plant on that empty space.
If I dont plant something I will be weeding it until November lol.
Thanks
Congratulations, you have done very well considering the very dry weather!!!!
Go over it with a rake to get it back in a good level plot and then you can sow spring onions- these will not mature very quickly but will be ready for picking early next year.
Radish will give you a crop before the winter, and some stump rooted carrots will give a picking before the cold weather.
If you can sow some french beans, they will probably give a small crop as well, and of course lettuce will mature before the winter for a picking.
These are just some suggestions and a lot will depend on the weather - but give it a go!!!
Hi. I've just sown some chard to banish the winter blues! You can also sow beetroot and carrot, also spring green cabbage.
thats great thanks for your suggestions, would it be ok to mix some flowers too?
Of course you should have some flowers too, it is as important to feed the eye and spirit as much as the tummy.
There are still plug plants about, you can put in a few small bulbs for next year in a month or two, lilies are available in pots, some already in flower, you can put them in the ground and they will come back next year - lily beetle allowing. Plenty others to choose from - go for it!
