can anyone help me please, can i take the leaves off my peppers to let more sunlight to the peppers as they seem very shaded, they are growing in my small greenhouse.any advice would be gratefully appreciated.
I've never had to remove leaves on my peppers but I grow them in full sun outside. If your plants are producing peppers I would leave them. The plants benefit from the leaves but if there is too much humidity, taking some leaves off for better air circulation shouldn't hurt. But don't over do it, less is more I think.
I've never removed any leaves either. Leave well alone I suggest.
I've removed some of the leaves from my peppers and chillies because they were huge and shading the fruit.
Looks like from the above messages it's a big thumbs down, mine seem ok though.
I have never removed any leaves from peppers which I have been growing in my GH for at least 20 years. They may look shaded but I have always had a good crop.
The leaves are important for photosynthesis and if this did not happen then the peppers would not develop properly.
thank you all for answering my question,as a first time gardener and loving every minute of it i have found the fellow gardeners on this site most helpful its a great site and a great slap on the back for those who set it up. i know i will be back asking more questions and i know that help and advice will always be availabe, once again thank you regards chris
I think with many crops it's heat rather than direct sunshine that they need in order for the fruits to ripen. I know that's true of tomatoes, and probably of strawberries, so it may well apply to peppers too. So removing the leaves won't necessarily help.
hi, mine are very shaded but it's not necessary to remove leaves they will go red without removal or what ever colour your growing. I've been growing peppers for the last 4 years and not had any problems joanne x
thank you Joanne fingers crossed they will turn out great i have about 25 at the moment cant wait to try them ,also dug up my first potatoes today so im over the moon,a nice salad for tea me thinks
