for the second year running my courgette plants have not had any female flowers so no courgettes i am using Midnight F1 Hybrid in a container with good compost and topsoil .
just not producing fruits plenty of male flowers but not one ruddy female
can anybody help Alan
Perhaps its something to do with the feed you're giving them? Or maybe the variety.
Black beauty seems to be a great one for cropping I got it free with dig in this year.
I have black beauty and have far more female flowers than male flowers....so one of each, the ideal match?
Mine were Dig In seeds as well and I have yet to see a female! Lots of flowers but they just drop off!
you might be giveing it to much water also dont feed it any thing. when i got my first plant i was told not to water to much and this advice has allways worked execpt for one year when it rained all the time, i also fed one plant tomatoe feed and got nothing from it except large leaves, still lovely plant though
Guess i will grow black beauty next year strange how there all male flowers on a F1 Hybrid need the female touch ha ha
Alan
That sounds about right thanks i have done both of those things thinking i was doing right
Alan
Just checked my courgettes again this morning (Dig In Seeds) and NO females at all!!! No wonder my plants aren't growing. Shame - will just have to eat the flowers instead.....
The aim of the plants is to get the pollen as far away as possible, that is, they don't want to self fertilise, which is why you only get male flowers at the beginning. Hopefully, the female flowers will appear afterward.
