I'm growing cucumbers for the first time this year. Two plants outdoors (La Diva). I haven't given them much attention and one was hidden behind a lot of other big containers. I think I just couldn't really imagine successfully growing cucumbers. Tonight I moved it out of the gloom and found two nice looking cucumbers of about 4-6 inches. My daughter and I were so excited and had to taste one straight away - lovely and cucumbery - and the other one is for the lunch bags tomorrow.

But now I'm wondering if it's the best thing for it to bring it into the light. The other one has had much more sun but the fruits are very small and quite feeble looking though I took some off to keep it cropping.

My cucumbers have cheered me up no end tonight.

I tried my very first home grown cucumber yesterday. It was lovely, more crisp than shop bought ones but really nice, mine are in bright light and seem to be doing OK, so can't answer your question, but yes it cheered me up too.

Well done with all your cucumbers. I don't grow them because my father loves growing them so I end up having to eat all his surplus. He announced today that he is bringing me three at the weekend.

Ooh, you've just reminded me, before we go away for a few days, to go and pick our first one. It's only about 7 inches long but I know it will have a great crunchy texture and good flavour, far less watery than the big supermarket ones. Just the thing for our picnic sandwiches. Yum!
