Hello,
Having just been at my allotment, after all that rain of the past week the raised beds now have mushrooms growing in them? The allotment is a new one with new manure in each bed, although well rotted and topsoil on each one.
What's with the mushrooms???
hi vixxihibiscus well as im new to growing my own i cant say but,i`d say what a bonus to get a few mushrooms lovely when nice n fresh, the only downside would be that you dont like mushrooms, hope you are well regards chris
look on the bright side there will not be mushroom for the weeds to grow....... I know it's a sad joke but then I am an all round fungi !!!
Sorry couldn't help myself
it is very common when ploughing up old pasture to get a good crop of mushrooms
Is this the case or also have you used spean mushroom compost ot fortify the soil
Roorain! That's terrible!
I don't so much mind them, I just wasn't sure if they would be harmful or not. Probably not if I don't eat them and there's not much chance of that!
Many Thanks guys, I'll just pick em out!
sorry about the jokes. I normally get mushrooms growing on the woodchip on the paths so far none edible I do have a book and I keep checking but none so far i normally kick them down so the dogs do not eat them.
I did consider eating them. My Dad has a book with hundreds of species, complete with illustrations.
There does seem to be a fine line though between the ones that look creamy brown and are perfect to eat and the ones that are creamy brown that cause haemorrages, collapsing of lungs, paralysis and a slow agonising death!
I think I'll leave mushrooms to the supermarkets. Confusing a Savoy with a Brussels Sprout seems far less dangerous!
