I have a number of tomato plants all with flowers and some small toms on. Should I remove the lower leaves of leave them on?
Thanks
Jeff
I start to remove mine as the fruit appears. Puts more energy into the fruit.
You might as well, the lower leaves have done their job by now and might even be looking old(going a bit yellow etc).
And light and air circulation are what`s needed now
I remove all leaves below the first truss once they start to form toms.
I do leave the remaining leaves on, after all the plant will still need to photosynthesize
I know that this will sound a bit daft...but what is a truss?
Hi secretprison, the truss is the stem with the flowers later the fruit on it. Your question doesn't sound daft at all. I learn something new most days I visit this message board.
This is good advice...only remove leaves from below where you are picking fruit. Removing too much foliage will lead to blotchy ripening.
I know that this will sound a bit daft
As said it`s not a daft question at all. We all had to start and this board is about helping others as well as learning new things for even some of us who have been around the gardening thing for years
Thank you for helping those of us who are first time growers. I for one have found it very helpful and can`t thank you enough.
