Hi All,
Last year OH bought a grapevine from a supermarket which just said Variety:Black Grape.
He trained it up a tripod and it produced 4 bunches of grapes. TBH they weren't very sweet(maybe wine grapes) so I dried them and they went into the Christmas puddings.
It looked beautiful in the autumn when the leaves turned red.
He pruned it in December back to the previous years growth.
This year it produced leaves but no growth or climbing tendrils. The leaves are now turning yellow.
Has anyone got any ideas as to why please.?
Has it been planted in the ground, or is it growing in a pot/container?
If in a pot, turn it out and check the roots for vine weevil damage and grubs. Otherwise it may have exhausted itself by producing grapes in the first year and may not have established well, especially as it has been so dry in much of the UK this year.
Keep it well watered/fed and it will hopefully be forming a good root system and do better next year.
Cheers -- Bob
Another good answer and little to add.
A vine is a long term investment so it`s always best to buy a named variety from a reputable supplier. And don`t crop it for two-three years until the root system and the framework you want is established
