on the squash plant are there male and female flowers like the courgette and if so do u pollinjate it the same way? how can i tell wether theyre male or female on the squash?
Squash, courgettes, melons, cucumbers, pumpkins etc are all the same family and have both male and female flowers. The female flowers always have a small version of the final fruit behind them, whereas the male flowers always have a simple stalk. You don't normally have to hand pollinate any of them as there should be enough insects around, but if you want to, pick a male flower off and remove it's outer petals then gently push the centre of it into each female flower.

my butternut squash plant has no female fruits though so what shall i do.
Wait, they'll come.
My butternut squash plants (3 of them) have so far only produced FEMALE flowers - I've already had about five lovely baby squash start to rot off
So far I've not seen any male flowers actually open - I know they're there - I can see them - they just don't seem to be opening yet!
I'm being patient though. I know that it will all come together, just like it did for my courgettes.
After my first pumpkin set, the plants kept just having male flowers and I was beginning to give up hope. Luckily three females suddenly appeared and they have now all set too. You just have to patiently wait for the plants to sort themselves out.
