Well I would imagine that letting them fully ripen would be better for taste,I would stop feeding them and let as many as possible develope to reduce the size of them the opposite to what you do if you want a few large ones then harvest in sep/oct for good eating.
You are lucky. I've tried pumpkins every year but never end up with anything bigger than a football, despite plenty of water and decent soil conditions. Do I have to feed them steak?!
I have a pumpkin plant which seems to be growing well with lots of leaves and runners and tap roots, and lots of flower buds forming, but none have opened and I still have NO pumpkins forming. Surely time is running out? Any thoughts on why my pumpkins aren't coming?
I think pumpkins are better if left to ripen on the vine. They go from being insipid, to just tasteless.
thanks to all who answered my request on what to do with my giant pumpkins, it looks as if i am going to have a whole lot of the things, in giant form.
