hi all, ive grown some lemon crystle cucumbers ive tried one but was slightly bitter ive left the others to get more yellowy...will these be bitter too any help will be useful and many thanks to any replies
I was given 2 melon cucs. So far I have any had 3 but there are terrible bitter and I had to put them on the compost. In my opinion, some vegs with fancy names don't live up to their claims. The colour is the same as yours - very light green and spiky skin.
I'm growing crystal apple cucumbers, which I think are the same thing as crystal lemon, for the first time this year, and they've been great! We've eaten 4 now (with loads more growing), and they taste so much fresher and more flavoursome than supermarket cucs. Mine aren't bitter at all, just more cucumbery...!
When are you picking them? I'm picking ours when they're golf ball sized, apparently if you leave them too long they do go bitter. Maybe that's the prob?
You pick them when they go a light yellow in colour and are delicious. You also need to ensure that they do not suffer a drought or uneven watering as this can cause bitterness.
