After seeing the magnesium defficient tomato plant leaves on G World last Friday I checked my plants. Yes I've got leaves that look the same, so I've been to town today to buy Epsom Salts as suggested on the prog. Tried Boots, Wilkinsons and Superdrug and can't get them. Is Andrews the same as Epsom salts? because I've got that in the medecine chest.
I got it in a local chemist, just asked at the counter. I've never seen it in any of the chain ones. They are used in baths for athletes and anyone wanting to detox.
Hi Doris, got mine from the GC, or you could try the hardware store.
couldn't tell you about Andrews - that was a blast from the past, my Dad use to use Andrews He use to lie on the sofa after to much lunch on a Sunday and drive Mum mad complaining about heartburn until in the end she would explode and send one of us running for a glass of water and the tin of Andrews, it was a little blue tin with a silver push on lid I use to save them to keep my chalks in. Happy time - thanks, I needed cheering up today
They used to give it to nursing mothers who needed to dry their milk up !!! Chemist or Pharmacy definitely your best bet. Nan x
Thanks I'll try a small one out of town.
diggingdoris - Andrews isn't suitable for correcting the problem you mention.
Ask for 'Sulphate of Magnesium' at your local garden centre, this is Epsom Salts by another name.
The larger pharmacy chains, by virtue of how they run their business, tend to tell you that they can't order things like epsom salts for you (there is actually no good reason why they couldn't although I believe that Boot's computer systems might make it fairly difficult for them). Try an independent pharmacy, they'll be much more likely to help.
I got a box from the local garden centre - by Westland and called Epsom Salts! It was in a row of other Westland products so must be readily available. I sprinkled and watered my tomatoes and have fingers crossed there'll be no more yellowing ....
You don't really need expensive medical grade epsom salts if it's for plants. Have a look in a garden centre for magnesium sulphate, or sulphate of magnesium, or epsom salts - it's all the same thing, just the last two are old fashioned names.
Thank you to all of those who replied to my problem. I'm off to the GC today to get it sorted. What a great bunch you all are. So much info to help grenhorns like me. Thanks.
