...that just removing the flowering stalk of things like chard and spinach beet will be enough to stop these plants running to seed, and extend their useful life? In the past I've just hoicked out chard etc. that's begun to bolt, thinking that there was nothing I could do to save the plants. But I think someone on GW said that all you needed to do was to cut off the bolting stalk and all would be well.
Any opinions?
It's worth a try. Sometimes you can extend the crop but in the end it will go.
In my experience they just produce a whole load of new, smaller flowering stalks. But since they don't taste bitter after flowering it does maybe give you a bit more of a crop as you can take th little leaves off the side stalks too.
