Good morning all, I have recently prune some of the tomato leaves and courgette/pumpkin leaves, Are they fine for composting or in a bucket of water to use as fertiliser?
I have never thought of doing the latter - I don't think they would break down quickly enough. Compost heap is fine.

If the tomato leaves show signs of blight, then I would put them in my dustbin.
I would be happy to compost Courgette and Pumpkin leaves and would chop up the stems for composting afterwards.
Yes, to be safe rather than sorry next year, I would bin or burn old leaves with any hint of fungal growth. Compost fresh prunings, by all means but be careful about putting all and sundry on the compost heap. I for one, am fed up of tomato or melon plants appearing from last year's kitchen scraps, the seeds having survived the composting process with ease.
Paul, I pulled up a rogue potato plant from my front bed which had obviously emerged from my compost - it had 3 potatoes on it, so at least I got my dinner ! Nan x
Thanks all of you that have answered me,I am going to experiment some of the tomato leaves and courgette leaves into a tea and use them as liquid fertiliser. The leaves are green and fresh,no sign of yellowing or brown or meldrew. Some of the leaves will go to the compost bin.
Nan--I had some good size potatoes from peeling which have sprouted in the compost bin in the past.
