Goodmorning all, Last year I bought two blueberry plants but one died, the other survive and produced only 5 leaves. This year there are 3 new shoots growing from the ground and in the spring time I saw a few little berries but after a while they went dried and fell off,so I didn't get any fruits althought I water it well with rainwater. Now I can see that some of the leaves look brown. Can someone advice me if that is a problem. The plant is in a pot by a southfacing wall. Is it too sunny for the blueberry plant.
    Thanks, any advice wellcome.

My garden is South facing and Blueberries love the sun, so that should not be a problem. I also water with tap water if I do not have any rain water and they do not seem to mine, and they both crop exceedling well. Are they planted in Ericaceous compost? as they are acid loving plants, why not have a look at the roots to check everything is OK.

It's normally advisable to have at least two different varieties growing nearby, if you want lots of fruit.

Make sure the soil is mildly acidic too, either by following the advice above (that is, special compost), or by mixing a little organic acid into the water, citric acid crystals being one example, acetic acid (vinegar) being another.

Bear in mind, lots of plants don't like acidic soil, so it's a good idea to isolate blueberries in their own big pots.

Interested in this too - I had 4 blueberry plants which I potted into large terracotta pots in ericaceous compost and only watered with rainwater.

2 have died, 1 is really struggling and the 4th hasn't set any fruit although it did have plenty of flower smiley - sadface They're in the sunniest spot in my tiny garden. I'm not sure whether to give up or but another couple of plants and try again - any ideas would be great please.

hi blue-lotus for several years i was like you i bought a blueberry then another then put each in pots of ericaceous compost
tried several parts of the garden
last year quite a few flowers appeared then they had gone???(evidently birds love them as well as me)
at each stage and over several years i made malicious threats to said plants!!!! ie this is your last chance fruit or you go to mighty compost in the sky
then in spring of this year in a last chance kill or cure attempt i planted them (more threw them in really )in my (brand new walk in fruit cage bought for my birthday -yes i am showing off!!) in ericaceous compost and fed a few times with ericaceous feed
AND YES !!!!!i have this year had LOADS and still lots more to ripen i cannot believe it whether the rain we have had has anything to do with it i dont know
so try the treat 'em mean and keep 'em keen approach who knows??? good luck

hi nan2-3 I will keep trying but the problem is that some of the leaves are getting brown. so when you look at the branches they have both the dark green and brown leaves in these same branches. If one whole branch goes brown one could say it's time to prune it, may be I should remove the brown leaves only.
